OWNING A BUSINESS IS A LONELY ART. CLIENTS WANT EVERYTHING, EMPLOYEES WANT MORE, AND NO ONE IS LOOKING OUT FOR You. Let’s talk.

BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS AN ALLY.

Marketing : BRanding : sales : hiring : process improvement : messaging : balance

BUILD YOUR BUSINESS

There are so many decisions and questions that you, as a business owner, have to answer every. single. day. It’s mind-boggling and soul-crushing sometimes to feel like you’re alone and holding the weight of success. I have helped start and grow businesses for over a decade and I can advise you on best practices, next steps, and how to grow in the right direction.

ADVICE TO ACTION

Everyone needs an ally and I am that for my clients. But it’s more than just advice. I have skills in branding, marketing, sales, communication, hiring/firing, process development, and myriad other strategies and tactics to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

THERE’S A BIGGER PICTURE

Though most clients hire me to help build their business, we eventually get to looking at the big picture. How is your work/life balance? What does true success look like? Do you have a succession plan? What do you value above money? Will you know when you arrive at your goals? Do you even have a goal in mind?

GROWING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION It’s hard to know if you should add more staff, move locations, begin a new area of your business, or take on a new project. I can help you work through the reasoning, goals, and steps to get where you’re going.

FINDING MORE CUSTOMERS Reaching more customers is a great idea, but it doesn’t mean reaching more “people.” We want to target our offerings so every dollar we spend is going after those most ready to hear your offer and act on it.

VALUE AND VALUES MATTER MOST Your value is what will make someone buy what you’re selling, but they become your best marketing and advocates if they believe in your values as well. Customers care where their money goes after the sale.

THE UNSUSTAINABLE GOAL OF “MORE” When we start our business, we are just trying to build enough, which is always more. But as we grow, we need to define success with the question “what is enough?” Let’s define it so we can reach it.

EXPANDING WITHOUT DILUTING So often, we seek new areas to grow into. This can be great, but is that direction really what you want to do and does it make sense for your current capabilities, future potential, or your customers’ understanding?

BECOME THE MODEL YOU WISH YOU HAD Many entrepreneurs and owners are still working from their parents’ playbook. “More is better!” isn’t always true. Who and how do you really want to be in the world? Be bold and make your own meaning.

JOE HESLIN

I have been working with entrepreneurs and owners for over a decade and, in that time, I have seen and learned a lot. As a business owner myself, I know what it feels like to wake up at 2 a.m. with a knot in my stomach and the world on my mind. For many of us, there’s no one to lean on. We can be so good at doing what we’re selling and selling what we’re doing, but it can sometimes feel like luck and magic. How great would it be to have someone on your side—someone working with you to grow your business, to take some of the tasks off your plate, and to be sketching out a bigger picture of where you’re going, how you’ll get there, and what you need along the way. Life as an owner can be lonely and stressful. Let me be an ally in what you’re doing. More than advice, we’ll work together to move you toward the goals that you had set aside for “later.” Later starts today, so let’s start working.

Contact me if this makes sense and you want to get started.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

Joe helped me set up my business. I was working for someone else and I didn’t see how I could grow past that position. He made it look easy to set up the legal structure, create a name, make a logo, get some business cards and start me towards the success I’ve got now. It was only a few years ago and my family and I are in a totally different and better place.

Joe “gets” the stresses and complexities of leading a business. There’s never not some pressure to grow or shift, but Joe helps with those questions and concerns. When a question comes up, we talk about it and he has these great insights into what I really want to do, rather than doing what I feel like I’m supposed to do based on the opinions of others. He just helps make sense of things and then follows through.

In all the 30 some years that I have been working in mental health services and marketing, I have never met anyone who has captured feelings through words as Joe has. The language he uses is the most respectful I have ever seen in print—it actually brought me to tears.

Joe worked to thoroughly understand my brand and the workings of my industry, as well as my goals and strengths. Through this, he was able to provide me with incredible insight and feedback about how to move forward and grow my business. He is a truly exceptional communicator and is kind, down to earth and approachable, as well as direct and honest. Joe was able to clearly articulate what set my business apart from others in my field and came up with a multi-tiered approach for gaining new clients.

I’ve worked with Joe for years now and, in the time, we have shifted my whole business. I used to not have time for all the customers that came to me, but Joe showed me the difference between a customer that comes and goes, and a client that I hold on to and who grows with me. In addition, he has helped me find some much needed balance between work and life.
Jonathan Royce
ArborClimb Tree Care

Smart, fun to work with, efficient, and effective. I had a very brief window to get a lot done and Joe kept everything on track. By consolidating mounds of information into a compact presentation he gave my thoughts more impact and me more confidence in talking about my organization.

Joe is able to arrange complex elements into a clean, clear structure. He researched what I do, why its important and who needs to know about it, and then he built that into an engaging and concise pitch. Marketing can be so unseemly, but Joe just crafted the truth into something compelling.

As an artist, I had been working hard for years to grow into larger commissions and greater visibility. Joe helped me to position myself toward the growth that I’d been seeking, but didn’t know how to achieve. He seems to have this strange talent to listen to me and then say what I’ve always wanted to say about what I do.
